Acer has introduced three laptops in Japan with built-in support for 4G WiMAX mobile broadband. These include updated versions of the 13.3 inch Acer Aspire AS3820, the 11.6 inch Aspire AS1830, and the 10.1 inch Acer Aspire One AOD255.
The Aspire One AOD255 is powered by a single core Atom N450 processor. It has a 10.1 inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Other specifications include Windows 7 Starter, 1GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive.
The Aspire AS1830Z-A32C is an 11.6 inch model with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. It is powered by a 1.20GHz Intel Pentium U5400 processor. Other specifications include Windows 7 Home Premium, up to 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive.
The AS3820-A52C is 13.3-inch ultraportable laptop powered by the Intel Core i5-460 processor with up to 8GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive.
A laptop having built-in 3G or 4G will let you access the 3G or 4G network of the respective service provider. There isn't much point in buying a 3G or 4G notebook if you don't intend to use the computer for the length of the contract or you plan to switch carriers. By the way you can yourself add WiMAX to any laptop by using a USB dongle or a mobile hotspot from your WiMAX provider.
No word on whether these models will be available outside of Japan.
